This is kind of makeup-y? Beauty at least? My hair is fine but I have a lot of it; untamed it looks like kind of a goofy frizzy mess, but I tame it with some leave-in conditioning oil and a flatiron. I've noticed when I dry it that I have some interesting natural waves, and I'd kind of like to see how I could do with the "beachy waves" look, but so far my attempts just look like I slept in wet hair and woke up looking weird. So my question is, does anyone have any product(s) to recommend where I can just apply a little (spray, goo, whatever) and do a minimum of styling and have fun waves? Any kind of texturizing creme. Especially if it says curl defining. It sounds like we have exactly the same hair type. I usually will wash it in the morning, run some of that through, comb it out, then part it down the middle, pull it behind my ears and twist it with my fingers on my way to work. It's dry and wavy, sometimes even spiral curled when I get there. I've been doing my hair like this in the summer for years, then I blow-dry and iron it in the winter months. Thanks! I'll look around for something inexpensive to try out - I like it sleek and smooth but I feel like it would be fun to have another option too.

So my question is, does anyone have any product(s) to recommend where I can just apply a little (spray, goo, whatever) and do a minimum of styling and have fun waves? I use Kerastase Nutritive oleo-relax serum, it's really good at smoothing thick, fine/soft hair, without weighing down your precious curls or waves, and it is not greasy at all - I put it on whilst my hair is still damp, and then usually add a little more to finish. Dry oils are great for your hair as well, most are sold in spray form, but I buy mine from The Body Shop, the nozzle's fitted so that the oil comes out one drop at a time. I always carry a bottle with me and apply sparingly throughout the day, at the moment I'm using their brazil nut oil; it has a deliciously rich chocolatey smell, after I've worked some through my hair I rub a single drop in to my lips mmmmmmmmmmmmm. ("Most dry body oils contain fresh accords of essential and/or botanicals (think jojoba oil, shea butter oil, and vitamin E oils") I know the Kerastase serum seems expensive, but it lasts. You can buy dry oils anywhere, I just prefer TBS because their range provides such a gorgeous variety of scents, plus I always know what I'm getting, plus I'm a little bit vain. My golden rule for buying anything from The Body Shop is there must be a minimum of 40% off + sale - they have online sales and discounts all the time, so you know their mark up is ridiculous (the brazil nut oil was marked down from over £10 to £2.60).

@satelliteskynet Diffusers are useful though if you're in a hurry, and want to retain a few curls before braving the elements - a lot of it depends on hair type, haircut, and how you choose to use the diffuser.

@satelliteskynet thanks! My current hairdryer doesn't have a diffuser so I don't have that option anyway. Volume is not really a problem for me anyway.
I'll experiment on my work from home days where I have time to screw around if needed.

oh god damn it
I was placing a Sephora order today because now ALL their OCC is up on clearance, not just selected colors
and I meant to get a bonus thingy with my points (I really wanted that 250 point Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine .24oz bottle because smelling like citrus is my jam) and I saw the button to redeem points JUST as I was clicking "place order" and so I called immediately to see if they could add it in but I was TOO LATE
argh and then I tried my local sephoras to see if any of them were carrying it in store but neither of them were
woe

I took this photo to add visual interest to my most recent manicure, but then something else interesting happened: Anyway, I should have stopped at two coats, because it's old and gloppy, but I went ahead with three and now it's too dark. (RIP, OPI's You're Such a Kabuki Queen. I'll never get over you.) But! I just picked up a couple new colors at Target and can't wait to try them.

I was ready to blame this infuriating pinky chip on Essie's Gel Setter topcoat, then remembered I used Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails as a base, instead of my usual "sticky," color-grabbing base. So I think Sally Hansen is the true culprit. I usually use Seche Vite on top, but it never stays shiny enough for me ( Poshe is also a good one, and also has a cute little drawing of me on the bottle). So I was excited to try Gel Setter. This shit delivers. I did my nails on Saturday, and they're still glossy! I was a bit worried that it wouldn't dry as quickly as Seche Vite, but I followed my usual late-night manicure routine without mishap. Color is OPI's Strawberry Margarita. I love my Barbie nails and their clickety-clacking on my keyboard and will be a little sad when one breaks and I have to file them all down.

Sephora: You get a free birthday gift of mini Nars lip pencils!
Me: Yayyyyyy! I always wanted to try Cruella but was wary of spending that much cash on something that might be too pink for me.
Sephora: ....you have to buy something first.
Me: Booooo.
Me: *buys yet another Besame lipstick that's in yet another shade of red, gets free birthday gift*
Me: Yayyyyyyy!

The Stuffingtacular She-Hulk, if you end up liking Cruella, I have a mostly-unused one you can have. It won't be gross because it's a pencil.

That's very kind of you. I was wary about paying $26 for something untested (usually $22 is my upper limit). Maybe we should start up a makeup swap thing for those of us who get Birchbox or Ipsy or whatever boxes/bags and sometimes wind up with stuff we're not too crazy about? Usually my Ipsy is pretty great but this month they're sending me eyeliner and eyeshadow - when I specifically do not have those things checked on my "wants" list. I'm never going to use those.

Finally got some texturizing spray and trying it out this morning, so we'll see if my hair looks purposely messy-wavy or just "you forgot to do anything to it"
Also the spray got all over the bathroom counter. I swear I was aiming for my hair.

OK, be honest, I can handle it. Does this look ok? good? like I did it on purpose? I normally blow-dry it sleek and flat-iron it, so it's definitely less "polished" but...??

Since when do you have to pay to get your birthday gift??? Hmm, I guess that's only if you're ordering online? I used to roll up into the store and be like "thanks for the gift bye now" Are there stores near you?

That's the only thing I can't stand and is why I stick with a lotion. But I like it! It looks beachy. My hair's longer than yours so I get a bit more of a spiral curl to it, but I do a lot of twisting. A lot.

It's not quite "crunchy" but you could definitely feel the spray, I'm trying to find the happy medium between crunch and "just barely wavy". It's a bit more twisty today but I can't quite get to spiral curls. Anyway, thanks Husband said he liked it, so that's a plus.

It's not quite piecey enough. Did you scrunch upwards? That should give you more lift. You can also try taking little sections and twisting them when you out the product in. It doesn't give you spiral curls, but it does keep the waves together. I did, and since then I got a cut and have tried a few more times, it's looked a bit more piecey but also depends how much product I put in. I am either driving or trying to work as it dries usually so I can't do nothing but fuss with it but thanks for the thoughts!

BARGAIN BEAUTY BONANZA! Freeman's Banana-Oat Instant Smoothing Mask has supplanted Ole Henriksen's Power Peel as my favorite facial exfoliator. It smells delicious, is dirt-cheap, and makes my skin look better than any peel I've tried. A little goes a long way; I haven't found the full-size product, but the single-serve packets contain enough for at least three uses. And now the one I'm really excited about: blotting papers from the Dollar Tree. Jackpot! I'd have bought the whole box if I'd had more money. I was about to cut up some tissue paper and make my own, but these are a steal.

The pink is too close to the color of my lips, but that red tho. I haven't tried the pink yet, but the red is gorgeous! I was less impressed with the way it wore off, though - I got the dreaded O-ring around my mouth.

Oh, Urban Decay's "Naked" makeup is so, so, so great. I would give anything to find something that great that didn't cost so much.

Not makeup, but hair. I miss my super long hair. I only have regular long hair now and my hair isn't growing fast enough. Someone wave a magic wand and make my hair grow.

www.thebalm.com/manizer-palette.htmlWent to theBalm's store in the SF Mission today to pick this up. Cute-ass store. I haven't tried any of their luminizers before, but I really like the brand and the palette's gotten good reviews online. And even if they don't work so much as highlighters (like I'm not too sure about the bronzer for my coloring), these particular products are safe to use as eyeshadows as well. (Might give it to a family member so they can then give it back to me for the holidays.)

I think we'd have fun making things and doing makeup and dressing up and cooking and eating and drinking.

MAC is having a crazy sale right now. Sweet! MAC's Russian Red was the first red lipstick I bought after years of not wearing it (it's a long story but someone made me feel really insecure about it) and it's just such a lovely, flattering shade. Also, I cannot sing the praises of Besame lipstick nearly enough. It's expensive - $22 a pop - but my god does it go on like a dream, and it stays put. Red Velvet in particular is a color that looks amazing on everyone I've ever seen wear it. The only lipstick brand I think I like more is Kat Von D's liquid lipsticks. Super pigmented and crazy lasting power.
